SOKOL POSTER STAMPS

(Click on any image to view an enlarged version)

Poster stamps are stamps bearing advertising, usually for an event or product, and often reproducing an actual poster that was used at the same time. They were used widely in Europe in the early 20th century, especially in Germany, and in the US and other countries as well.

Below are images of all the Sokol poster stamps I own, plus some contributed by Brian Day, credited as appropriate.

The image on the poster stamp above is a reproduction of Adolf Liebscher's painting of the All-Sokol Slet of 1882.

The strip above shows the history of the All-Sokol Slets prior to 1938. There should be ten stamps, the leftmost having the same design as the green one above, showing the 1882 Slet.
